Myotherapy / Remedial Massage

Myotherapy is the practice of manual therapy which is focused on assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions. It can be used for pain, mobility, posture, sporting and work injuries, and general aches and pains.

What’s the difference between myotherapy and massage therapy?

Myotherapists complete an Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy and are required to have completed a Diploma of Remedial Massage. Myotherapy is a full-time 12 month course at university level. Core competencies include dry needling, cupping therapy, corrective exercises, advanced hands on techniques, and implementing current evidence based care.

How does it work with Physiotherapy?
Myotherapy and Physiotherapy aim to work together by complimenting their treatments. The outcome and goal is the same and together they work well.  Physiotherapists will often assess, diagnose and begin treatment on an injury / problem area. Physiotherapists also have the capacity to refer off for imaging if appropriate. The physiotherapist can refer to myotherapy for a more detailed and longer hands on session. In the reverse, a Myotherapist may refer a client back to physio for further assessment / diagnostic tools and detailed rehabilitation. Myotherapists are unable to provide a clinical diagnosis of a condition.

Myotherapy treatment tools include massage, trigger point therapy, dry needling, cupping, myofascial work and rehabilitation. To book an appointment for Myotherapy use the Book Online Button or click below.
